Basic Info
Name:Rogue
Location:Mississippi, United States
Bio
Character: Marie D'Ancanto (Using the alias "Rogue")
Series: X-Men movie series
Version: Just before X-Men 1 begins.
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Straight, presumably. At least, if her love interests in the comics, cartoons, and movies have anything to say about it. =P

Appearance: Rogue's looks are a study in irony; she's a beautiful untouchable. She stands at a solid 5'6" and still growing, sporting a shapely hourglass figure with all the curves a growing young woman could ask for, and a lovely, unusual face that complements a literally killer complexion. Elegantly high cheeks, a delicate nose, and full feminine lips complement rich brown eyes with slender brows and long lashes. Her hair, also brown, is several shades lighter, naturally curly but straightened regularly; when straight, it falls to the bottom of her shoulderblades. She currently sports a thick white streak in her bangs, which will confuses her greatly once she notices it; it appeared for no apparent reason when she accidentally touched one of the citizens of Paixao, and will stubbornly refuse to change back, as most phyiscal characteristics do. She tends to part her hair in the middle, so the white streak now frames her face; it contrasts nicely with the gold stud earrings she's currently wearing.

Her clothes are those of a runaway, especially one who fears being seen, recognized, or touched; she wears a long, loose, hooded trenchcoat, dark green and obviously too large for her over the entirety of her outfit. Beneath that are a hooded undershirt and a hooded, sleeveless shirt, (black and dark red, respectively), as well as a loosely knitted maroon scarf that reaches her waist, tan jeans with colorful patches sewn over them, and sturdy black boots. She hasn't yet found suitably long gloves, but those are her next priority, when she finds time, a place, and money--with that addition, the only thing to remain uncovered would be her face.

Personality: Once upon a time, Rogue was normal. She was a typical southern belle: beautiful, charming, popular, and fun-loving, with a sexy and sassy streak plain for all to see, eager for adventure and freely affectionate. That was before she discovered that she was a mutant, and her life went to Hell in a hurry. Suddenly denied the comfortable, mundane reality of everyday touch, contact, and comfort with other people, she found herself hated, feared, and alienated, and it wouldn't be at all surprising to see her manifest symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, major depression, or social phobia or anxiety. She finds it difficult to trust now, or let people get close to her; she's afraid of hurting even strangers, and so keeps from forming bonds if she can manage, despite her desperate yearning for friendship. It's the best situation she can manage at the moment, both to keep other people safe from her, and to keep herself safe from other people--very few would hesitate to try and beat a mutant to death over injuring a human, accidentally and temporarily or not. She's well aware of both sides of this, and does her best to keep everyone safe--though in her fear of pain and betrayal on either end, accidental or purposeful, she tends to run away from her problems rather than face them.

Shy, cautious, insecure, and directionless, Rogue is now looking for who she is, trying to form a new identity to grow into and comfortable with. She wants to figure out what to do with her life, and find a place where she belongs; being a runaway is the last situation she would choose. Rogue would much rather find people who are like her--or if not like her, then around whom she can feel comfortable, safe, and wanted. She wants some semblance of a normal life back, and perhaps even more desperately, she needs to rebuild her own private world, including an approximation of having a family again, or even just friends she can trust.

Abilities/Weaponry: As a 17 year old southern belle who was normal until a little over a month ago, Rogue does not have much in the way of either weapons or fighting ability. She is a fit, trim girl who was physically active for a normal teenager, but has no special fighting skills, and no weapons other than her own fists and feet or what she can find in the immediate vicinity--not that she would know how to use either with any degree of proficiency.

However, she does have some degree of protection from being attacked and otherwise harrassed, though she's afraid to use it as a defense or a weapon. Rogue possesses an activated X Factor, a gene in the human genetic code which, when activated, normally at puberty, causes evolution to surge forward at an alarming rate. Such evolution often takes the form of unique abilities to help the person, now called a "mutant" for the fact that they have mutated beyond the ordinary state of homo sapiens, survive the adverse consequences that triggered it. Other times, the mutation is evident at birth, or activates later, but is seemingly random and unrelated to the situation; such is the case with Rogue.

Her powers are vampiric or parasitic in nature: through skin-to-skin contact, she can absorb the memories, feelings, abilities, physical characteristics, skills, strength, fighting styles, knowledge, languages, and mystic arts of any living, sentient being. Because of the requirement of skin-to-skin contact, however, robots and energy beings are not susceptible to her touch, and the requirement for life and sentience prevents lower-order animals, corpses, machines, or other inanimate objects to be absorbed--though aliens, sentient non-human life, and divine beings with corporeal bodies all are potential targets. This power is always on, though it may possible become controllable through extensive training and mental alterations. The longer she holds onto someone, the longer her absorbed traits are retained, though there doesn't seem to be a stable ratio for this--if she holds on too long, however, the transfer becomes permanent.

Those affected by her power tend to be weakened (and in a fair amount of pain, as is she) and have their own abilities and such stolen from them; anything longer than brief contact renders them unconscious, and victims woken before the transfer is up tend to suffer from amnesia for the duration, though those with their powers permanently absorbed are capable of eventually recovering their abilities, while their memories are intact when they next wake up. Rogue retains vague impressions of every psyche she absorbs, and sometimes takes on their characteristics; the longer she has touched someone, the stronger this impression is, with permanently absorbed powers practically contributing seperate personalities--needless to say, a transfer of that magnitude would leave both parties more than a little insane.

Weaknesses: First and foremost, Rogue's constantly active powers and their ramifications have caused her considerable psychological trauma, shattering and practically inverting her normal personality; they've driven her away from everything she knows and loves, and consigned her to be a strange, alien thing, hated and feared among most Americans. Even worse than most other mutants, she faces a lonely life without human touch or affection without guilt, a self-exile caused by knowing that anyone she is close to could end up comatose or worse because of who and what she is. Using said powers themselves causes her and her target a great deal of pain and some mental instability, among other things; her victims become powerless and memoryless, while she struggles to deal with powers she was never meant to possess, and possibly having her mind overwhelmed by particularly strong personalities; vestiges of absorbed victims' personalities remain to haunt her, often distorted by her own mind and emotional state at the time, leaving her without privacy within her own mind.

Aside from these, it is also notewortrhy that she is nothing more than a terrified, traumatized young human woman who might well be suffering from some form of post-traumatic stress disorder. She has not completed her education in anything other than normal, basic high school subjects; she is not stronger, faster, or tougher than a reasonably active girl her age would be; and she has no influence or resources to speak of except what she carries on her person. Beyond her powers, which hav caused her little more than grief, she's a person like any other--and not one particularly outstanding in any way, at that.

History: For most of her life, Rogue was a a typical girl, born the only child in Caldecott, Missisippi to a loving mother and father. She lived a normal life up until the final year of high school, after which she planned to travel across the country with her boyfriend, David, sight-seeing at Niagara Falls, the Rocky Mountains, and Anchorage. While they were plotting this trip, they shared their first kiss--at which point, her mutant powers activated, and he began shrivelling before her eyes, convulsing and screaming as she broke away, screaming in horror herself. He was rushed to the hospital, and remained comatose for three weeks while she struggled with the lasting impression of his psyche in her mind. Finally, traumatized by nearly killing the boy she loved, she left. For her own good and that of everyone she cared for, she ran away from home, with only cash and the clothes on her back to keep her going, relying on hitchiking to follow the course of travel she and David would have taken.

This harried fugitive existence is Rogue's entire life now, though it hasn't been for long; the mental wounds are still new and very raw, and she has no idea where she's going, what she should do with herself, or what will become of her. For now, she's simply trying to run away from her past and her crime, and ended up running straight into Paixao instead.
